Fry Paces @Towson_MGOLF On Day One Of Fireline Invitational

GRASONVILLE, Md. - Sophomore Matt Fry shot the sixth best score in a 120-person field to pace the Tigers on day one at the 14th annual Towson Fireline Invitational, held at Prospect Bay Country Club.

Fry had a slow start to his round and found himself three over par after just six holes. The sophomore regrouped nicely though by posting two birdies on the seventh and eighth hole, finishing the front nine with a one over 37.

Fry posted a pair of birdies and seven pars on the back nine to come into the clubhouse scoring a two under 34 on the final nine holes, firing a one under 71 overall.

Senior Justin Koehler and junior Ken Jee both birdied the opening hole en route to posting rounds of 77 and 76, respectively. Sophomore Joe Gunerman and freshman D.J. Honan finished the first day of the tournament with rounds of 83.

Northern Colorado leads the 22-team field after carding a team score of even par (288). Central Connecticut State sits in second (290) while Seton Hall, Navy and Penn State are in a three-way tie for third (294). As a team, Towson shot a 307, good enough for 19th overall.

Penn State's Anthony DeGol and Fairfield's Scott Rainaud fired the top individual score of the day as each finished with a four under 68.

Play will resume at the Prospect Bay Golf Course on Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
