TOWSON, Md. - Despite six saves by freshman goalkeeper
Emilee Woodall, the Towson University field hockey team (2-11, 0-3) fell to VCU (11-2, 1-4) by a score of 2-0 on Friday evening.
VCU took the lead early in the game as
Kendall Combs scored on a pass from
Nicola Breeman in the sixth minute of the game.
Woodall made four first-half saves as the Tigers kept the Rams to only six shots in the first half. The Tigers recorded first-half shots by
Morgan Skavdahl and
Stacey Mackintosh.
The second half remained scoreless until the 69th minute when VCU's Combs capitalized again on a penalty stroke to give the Rams a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers had second-half shots registered by
Kelsey Fielder and
Allie Stauffer to give Towson a game total of four shots.
The Rams had seven shots in the second half and Woodall recorded two saves.
Woodall finished the game with a total of six saves for the Tigers.
VCU's
Kendall Clifton made one save to earn the win for the Rams.
Towson returns to action on Sunday, October 19th as they face Appalachian State in College Park, Md. The game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
