TOWSON, Md. -- Despite getting a pair of goals from junior forward
Heather Jenney, the Towson University field hockey team fell to Hofstra, 4-2, in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contest on Friday night at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
The two-goal performance by Jenney was her second of the season as the junior also tallied a pair of scores against Columbia on October 10.
Towson (2-13, 0-4 CAA) has now dropped eight straight games since topping Longwood, 3-2, on September 26. Hofstra, which has now won four straight games, improves to 11-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The Tigers jumped out an early 1-0 lead when Jenney tallied her fifth goal of the season off a feed from senior
Kelsey Fielder in the 22nd minute.
Hofstra's Marta Penas tied the game just over five minutes later. After Towson's
Emilee Woodall made the initial save on a Hofstra penalty corner, Penas corralled the rebound and scored the equalizer in the 27th minute.
The Pride took their first lead in the 33rd minute when Stella Schoen scored off a feed from Charlotte Loehr to give Hofstra a 2-1 lead, which it took into halftime.
The Pride continued their momentum into the second half as Jonel Boileau tallied Hofstra's third straight goal off a fastbreak feed from Stella Schoen. The give-and-go play worked to perfection to give the Pride a 3-1 lead in the 43rd minute.
Towson responded in the 50th minute by taking advantage of a Hofstra miscue. A Pride turnover in the Tiger circle led to an open shot for Jenney, who scored her second of the game and sixth of the season to cut Towson's deficit to 3-2.
Hofstra wasted little time extending its lead back to two goals as Loehr scored in the 55th minute off a pass from Claudia Marin Samper to give the road team a 4-2 lead, which it held on to.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday when they travel to Northeastern for a 1 p.m. contest in Boston.
