TOWSON, Md. - Despite two defensive saves by sophomore
Morgan Skavdahl, the Towson University field hockey team (2-15, 0-6 CAA) could not overcome three first-half goals and fell to Drexel (9-8, 1-4 CAA) on Friday evening. Freshman
Emilee Woodall recorded 13 saves in the Tigers' final home game of the season.
Towson's Skavdahl recorded her first defensive save of the night in the game's 12th minute, stopping a shot by
Jessica McCarthy to keep the game scoreless.
Woodall continued the Tigers' defensive effort as she made an impressive save on a penalty stroke awarded to Drexel's
Christina Conrad, 12 minutes into the game.
Drexel's
Margaux Lourtie put the Dragons on the board in the 20th minute as she scored an unassisted goal. She would give Drexel a 2-0 lead on another goal, assisted by
Allyson Fuller in the 22nd minute of the game.
Mary Lynam would provide the final goal of the night for the Dragons as she scored unassisted in the 29th minute.
In the 29
th minute, Northeastern's
Vanessa Pryor scored two quick goals to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead over Towson. She scored her first goal unassisted before
Emma Lamison helped on her second goal, 12 seconds later.
Drexel outshot the Tigers 11-1 in the first half. Towson's
Kelly Mattingly provided the only Tiger shot in the first minute of the game.
The second half proved to be scoreless for both teams as the Tigers showed strong defensive effort. Towson's Woodall recorded 13 second-half saves as the Dragon's outshot the Tigers 14-4.
Seniors
Courtney Branco and
Kelsey Fielder had opportunities for Towson in the second half but could not capitalize. Junior
Stacey Mackintosh also recorded a shot in the second half for the Tigers but was unable to pick up a goal.
Drexel's
Gunter Jantien played 58:02 and recorded four saves before
Ainslie Rhoads came in on relief action. Rhoads did not record a save in the game's final 11:58.
The Tigers conclude their regular season on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Georgetown for a 1 p.m. game.
