EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team (1-0) won its first dual match of the season on Wednesday, earning a 6-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's (1-1) at the Mount Tennis Courts.
 
"Mount St. Mary's came out firing in doubles but our girls bounced back nicely in the singles matches," Head Coach Doug Neagle said.
 
The Tigers won all six singles matches, with all of the victories coming in straight sets.
 
Sophomore Sophie Lesage led Towson's singles effort, defeating The Mount's Erin Benefiel (6-2, 6-0) in the number one spot.
 
Freshman Lucy Williams had a notable singles performance as she picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's Kelly Smith.
 
Towson freshman Nicole Shakhnazarova impressed in her first career match, earning a 6-3, 6-1 win over The Mount's Sruthi Kamprath.
 
Shakhnazarova partnered with Williams to earn the Tigers' only doubles win on the day, 8-3.
 
The Tigers next compete in the Blue & Gold Invitational, a tournament hosted by Navy on October 10-12.
