Strong Defensive Effort Leads Tigers to Third Straight Victory

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Towson men's basketball team held it's third-straight opponent under 50 points in defeating Bethune-Cookman, 63-42, Saturday afternoon in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic hosted by Monmouth.

Towson improved its record to 3-1 on the season, and in doing so, set a new school-record by holding its third-straight opponent under 50 points.  It is also the 16th time the Tigers have held an opponent under 50 points since the 1978-79 season.

The Tigers limited the Wildcats (1-3) to just 15-of-47 (.319) shooting from the floor, including just 6-of-20 (.300) in the first half.  Towson outrebounded BCU 42-25, and 13-8 on the offensive glass.

Towson got on the board first as A.J. Astroth pulled down an offensive rebound and converted the layup.  After BCU tied the game on their next possession, Timajh Parker-Rivera made a shot in the paint that gave the Tigers the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Tigers extended their advantage to 15-8 on a Josh Ivory three-pointer with 9:04 remaining in the half.  Both teams managed to score just two points over the next 4:59.  The Tigers got a layup from Four McGlynn with less than 30 seconds to go to take a 24-16 lead into halftime.

The second half began with a 12-4 Tigers run that was highlighted by five-straight points from John Davis.  The Tigers were able to extend their lead down the stretch by hitting 13-of-15 free throws over the final 8:35.

Eddie Keith II had his best game of the season with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.  Davis added 10 points and seven rebounds, while McGlynn went 8-for-8 from the free throw line and finished with 10 points.

The Tigers close out the weekend with a 4:30 p.m. tip against Monmouth on Sunday.
