Five Tigers Hit Double Figures in Rout of Goucher

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson men's basketball team had five players score in double figures, and three players reach double digits in rebounds in a 97-43 rout of Goucher in the 2014 home opener Wednesday evening at SECU Arena.

Freshman Byron Hawkins led all scorers with a career-best 19 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.  Fellow freshman Mike Morsell added 13 points and five assists.  Four McGlynn chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.

John Davis recorded his second-straight double-double with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.  Timajh Parker-Rivera had his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Alex Gavrilovic also pulled down 10 boards as the Tigers narrowly missed setting the school record with 65 rebounds in the contest.

The Tigers (5-1) got off to a slow start as they traded baskets with the Gophers (0-5) for the first five minutes.  Towson then held Goucher to no field goals over a 6:40 span, going on a 19-2 run during the process to open up a 16-point lead.

The second half began as the first half finished, with the Tigers going on a 22-7 run.  Hawkins led the charge by knocking down a three-pointer early, and then finished the run with a steal and a breakaway dunk.  He scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half.

As a team, Towson went 8-of-13 from beyond the arc in the second half.  They finished the game 13-of-27 (.481).  The 13 three-point field goals made was just one shy of the school record of 14 set against UMBC in 2008.

The Tigers continued to dominate on the glass as they outrebounded the Gophers, 65-29, including 22-6 on the offensive glass.

Towson returns to the court Saturday afternoon as they travel to face UMBC.  Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
