Tigers Open LIU Turkey Classic on Friday vs. Rhode Island

OPENING TIP: Towson is back in action as the LIU Brooklyn Turkey Classic begins on Friday. The Tigers will face Rhode Island on Friday, Nov. 28 at 4:30 p.m. and La Salle on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 4:30 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY (vs. Rhode Island): Towson and Rhode Island will be meeting for just the third time ever on Friday. In each of the previous two meetings, the home team claimed victory. The two squads last met during the 2010-11 season with Towson earning the 78-72 win in the Towson Center. In that meeting Charmonique Watt went 6-for-7 from three-point range and finished with 18 points.

SERIES HISTORY (vs. La Salle): Towson and La Salle will be meeting for the first time since the 1996-97 season on Saturday. The Explorers hold a 3-1 edge in the all-time series. Towson's only win in the series came in the first meeting as the Tigers claimed an 84-72 win as part of the Towson Invitational during the 1979-80 season.

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: The Tigers got a double-double in the game against UMBC. Redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen had 18 points and 18 rebounds. Hines-Allen's 18 rebounds were a career-high. It was Hines-Allen's third straight double-double and 14th as a Tiger. Hines-Allen leads the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with three double-doubles entering play this weekend.

THE BIG 1-0-0: The win over UMBC on Tuesday night gave Towson head coach Niki Reid Geckeler the 100th coaching victory of her career. Reid Geckeler compiled 85 wins during her five years at Howard. So far at Towson, she has 15 wins, including Tuesday's victory at UMBC.

WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY: Towson comes into play this weekend leading the CAA in blocked shots per game (5.3 per game). The Tigers had five blocks in the win at UMBC and have now blocked at least three shots in all four games this season. The Tigers blocked a season-high nine shots against Rider. It was the most blocks in a game since the Tigers blocked 10 against Hofstra during the 2012-13 season. Entering play this week, the Tigers ranked 40th in the nation for blocks per game. Six Tigers have blocked at least one shot so far this season. That group is led by redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen, who has seven. Hines-Allen is tied for the lead in the CAA with an average of 1.8 blocks per game. Senior guard Ciara Webb and senior forward Camille Alberson are tied for second on the team with four blocks each.

DON'T I KNOW YOU? Friday's game matches two former college teammates against each other on the sidelines. Towson's Niki Reid Geckeler and Rhode Island's Danyia La-Force were teammates at Georgetown during their collegiate careers. So far Reid Geckeler has gotten the better of her former teammate, picking up two wins last year when La-Force was the head coach at Northeastern.

UP NEXT: Towson will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The Tigers begin a stretch of three straight against in-state opponents when they visit Navy for a 7 p.m. game.
