TOWSON, Md. – Junior Timajh Parker-Rivera and sophomore John Davis nearly had double-doubles in leading the Towson men's basketball team to a 69-57 exhibition victory over Slippery Rock Friday evening at the SECU Arena.
Davis led all Tigers with 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Parker-Rivera stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, 11 rebounds and five assists. All nine of his points came from the free-throw line as he finished 9-for-12.
Two other Tigers were in double figures as Four McGlynn had 12 points and freshman Byron Hawkins chipped in 10.
Leading by only one late in the first half, Josh Ivory knocked down a jumper that sparked a9-2 run and sent the Tigers into the half up 31-23. McGlynn knocked down a pair of free throws, and Walter Foster hit 3-of-4 down the stretch to help extend the lead.
The Tigers pushed the lead to 10 points early in the second half before The Rock cut the lead to four. The run was quickly answered as Davis hit from in close, then pulled down the defensive rebound and started the fast break. His outlet pass found McGlynn who knocked down the pull-up three to extend the lead back to 11.
Towson would not allow SRU to get any closer the rest of the game in the 12-point victory. The Tigers outrebounded The Rock 44-35, and outscored them 36-20 in the paint.
The Tigers open the 2014 regular season Nov. 14 as they travel to face Alabama. Tip time is set for 9 p.m. and can be seen live on the SEC Network Plus. The game can also be heard on CBS Sports Radio 1300 with Spiro Morekas and Jerry Bembry on the call.
