Second-Half Run Not Enough at Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Towson found its offense from beyond the arc in the second half and went on a 12-2 run, but it was not enough to pull out the victory as the Tigers fell, 76-64, to Temple Wednesday evening at the Liacouras Center.

Trailing by 16 points with 10:04 remaining, Alex Gavrilovic and Four McGlynn each knocked down a pair of three pointers to cut the deficit to just six points and force a timeout.

The Owls (6-3) came out of the timeout and pushed the advantage back to nine points, but McGlynn had an answer from deep to make it a six-point game with 4:42 remaining.

Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Tigers (7-3) would get as Obi Enechionyia would get an offensive rebound and convert the three-point play.  Two free throws from Gavrilovic pulled the Tigers back within seven, but Josh Brown, who had only made three three-pointers on the season, nailed a three at the end of the shot clock to put an end to any comeback for the Tigers.

Temple would make six foul shots in the final minute to push the final score to the 12-point margin.

Both teams struggled on the offensive end in the first as they began the game by going a combined 3-of-38 from the floor.  The offense would pick up for both teams late in the half as John Davis scored four quick points and Byron Hawkins nailed a three right before the buzzer to send the teams into halftime with the Tigers trailing 25-20.

McGlynn paced the offense with 20 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc, while Gavrilovic chipped in with 17 points off the bench.  Davis recorded his sixth double-double of the season 11 points and 14 rebounds.

As a team, the Tigers outrebounded Temple 50-38, including 24-13 on the offensive glass.  The Owls had the advantage at the free-throw line going 26-of-35, compared to Towson's 15-of-23.

The Tigers will take 10 days for final exams before returning to SECU Arena Dec. 20 against LaSalle.  Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
