WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest University jumped out to a 45-24 lead and held off a second half push by the Towson University women's basketball team for a 74-64 victory on Thursday. Redshirt senior forward

Wake Forest opened the game on a 14-0 run behind five points from
Amber Campbell. Towson got on the board at 13:46 as sophomore forward
Brianna Bush converted a traditional three-point play. The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes as the Wake Forest (7-4) lead fluctuated between nine and 15 points. Campbell drained a three-pointer at 3:36 which gave the home team a 38-18 lead. A pair of three-pointers from senior forward

Breonn Hughey in the final two minutes made it a 45-24 game at the half.
Towson shot 34.6% from the field in the first half to Wake Forest's 42.4%. The Demon Deacons held a 24-15 advantage in the rebounding battle.
Back-to-back three-pointers from junior guard
Dominique Johnson to open the second half cut the Wake Forest lead to 15, 45-30 and forced the home team to call timeout. The two teams battled on both ends of the court as freshman center
Daijha Thomas hit a layup at 9:50 which pulled the Tigers to within 11, 56-45. An 8-0 run by the Demon Deacons pushed the Wake Forest lead back to 19, 64-45 with 5:30 to play.
Dearica Hamby had six of the Demon Deacons' eight. A jumper by Johnson at 4:57 started a 15-4 run by the Tigers. That scoring spurt which was capped by a Johnson three-pointer made it a 68-60 game with 1:41 to play. Johnson had seven of the Tigers' 15 during that run. A lay-up from Hamby at 1:05 pushed the Wake Forest lead back to 10, 70-60. Hines-Allen had four points in the final minute and helped the Tigers cut the lead to eight again. However,
Kelila Atkinson went 4-for-6 from the line in the final 60 seconds to seal the win for Wake Forest.
Towson shot 40.5% from the field in the second half and 38.1% for the game. The eight three-pointers by the Tigers were the second most for the team this season. Wake Forest shot 35.5% in the second half and 39.1% for the game. The Demon Deacons made seven three-pointers in the game. Wake Forest held a 48-36 advantage in the rebounding battle.
Hines-Allen had a team-high 23 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers. Johnson finished with 15 points, 13 of which came during the second half. She also contributed four assists and three steals. Hughey added eight points, five assists and four steals.
Hamby led Wake Forest with 27 points and 16 rebounds while Campbell had 14 points.
Towson wrapped up a seven-game road trip with the game today. The Tigers take time off for the holidays and return to action when they return home to host George Mason on Sunday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. in SECU Arena.
