George Washington (11-2) got off to a quick start in the game as the Colonials opened up a 19-4 lead with 14:35 to play in the first half. A jumper from Hines-Allen at 14:10 briefly halted the George Washington run. However, six straight points from
Jonquel Jones gave the Colonials a 25-6 lead.
Chakecia Miller's lay-up at 9:45 made it a 29-8 advantage for the visitors and the George Washington lead did not fall below 20 the rest of the way. The Colonials took a 48-21 lead at the half.
The Colonials shot 55.9% from the field in the first 20 minutes and held the Tigers to a 39.1field goal percentage. George Washington held a 23-12 lead in the rebounding battle.
The two teams battled hard in the second half but the Tigers were unable to stop the hot shooting Colonials. George Washington shot 51.7% from the field in the second stanza and outscored the Tigers 34-27. Senior guard
Markell Smith gave the Tigers a lift defensively as she pulled down seven of her game-high nine rebounds in the second half. The Tigers' freshmen class accounted for 12 of the 27 second half points. That group was led by freshman center
Daijha Thomas who had five points.
George Washington finished the game shooting 54% from the field while the Tigers shot 30.4%. The Colonials held a 47-32 advantage in the rebounding battle.
Hines-Allen added two rebounds, two assists and two steals to go with her team-high 16 points. Smith had three points to go with her nine rebounds. Senior guard
Ciara Webb had eight points and three rebounds while freshman guard
Shanea Butler added six points and five rebounds.
Caira Washington led George Washington with 21 points and seven rebounds while Jones finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Towson is back in action when Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play begins on Sunday, Jan. 4. The Tigers travel to defending champion James Madison for a 2 p.m. game.
