Tigers Fall at Drexel, 82-40

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Drexel University opened the game on a 17-9 run and went on to defeat the Towson University women's basketball team, 82-40 Wednesday evening in the regular season finale for both teams. The Tigers will be the sixth seed for the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament as a result of Wednesday's action around the league.

A lay-up from Tory Thierolf at the 11:29 mark of the first half allowed Drexel to take a 17-9 advantage in the game. Thierolf had eight of the Dragons' 17 points during that stretch. A pair of three-pointers from Fiona Flanagan pushed the Drexel lead to 23-9 with 9:58 to go in the half. Drexel continued to shoot the ball well over the final seven and half minutes of the half as a Carrie Alexander lay-up at the buzzer gave the home team a 42-16 lead.

Drexel shot 73.1% from the field in the first half while the Tigers shot just 26.1%. The Dragons (14-15, 9-7 CAA) made three first-half three-pointers and held a 15-10 advantage in the rebounding battle.

The two squads traded baskets to open the second half with senior guard Tanisha McTiller connecting on the Tigers' bucket at 19:20. That bucket proved memorable for McTiller as it gave her 1,556 points for her career and allowed her to pass Danielle Barry for second place on the career scoring list at Towson.

The Dragons continued to shoot the ball well in the second half. The Drexel lead fluctuated between 26 and 48 points over the final 20 minutes of play. Junior guard Ciara Webb made a lay-up with 16 seconds left which made the final score 82-40.

Drexel shot 56% from the field in the second half and 64.7% for the game. Towson (13-16, 7-9 CAA) shot 31% in the second half and 28.8% for the game. Drexel was aided by making seven second half three-pointers. Towson won the rebounding battle 29-25.
