Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Comeback Comes Up Just Short Against Northeastern

TOWSON, Md. – Towson held Northeastern to just two points over the final 8:04 of the game, but it was a Tiger three-pointer in the final seconds that rattled out to give the Huskies the hard-fought 52-49 victory over Towson Saturday afternoon at SECU Arena.

Trailing by 10 points with 8:04 to play, the Tigers (8-9, 1-3 CAA) began their final push as Alex Gavrilovic knocked down a three pointer.  Four McGlynn came down two possessions later and hit a pull-up jumper from the top of the key, then fed Timajh Parker-Rivera in transition to pull Towson within three points with 1:21 remaining.

NU (11-5, 3-1 CAA) ran the clock down and called a timeout.  But, the Tigers defense stiffened on the inbounds play and forced a five-second call and the turnover.

On the final possession of the game, the Huskies used their three fouls to keep making the Tigers inbound the ball.  After a timeout, Towson ran a play for Four McGlynn, who got a good look, but the ball rattled out and NU pulled down the rebound to seal the game.

The game was one in which both teams went on runs.  NU went on an 8-0 run early in the game to take a 12-4 lead.  The Huskies would push their first-half lead to 12 points before Towson closed the first half on a 6-0 run to trail only 32-26 at halftime.

The second half started with an 8-2 Tiger run to tie the score with 16:19 left to play.  John Davis was the catalyst of the early run with six of the eight points.

The Huskies were not fazed by the slow start to the second half as they got a big three-pointer from Devon Bagley and a dunk from Quincy Ford to open a 10-point advantage.

Towson played one of its best games as they only turned the ball over nine times.  They forced NU to turn the ball over 13 times and outscored the Huskies 11-10 off turnovers.

The Tigers were outrebounded (30-29) for just the fourth time all season, but pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and converted those into 13 second-chance points.

Davis led the offense with 11 points, while McGlynn and Gavrilovic each added nine.  Parker-Rivera had a team-best eight rebounds to go with six points and two blocks.  Mike Morsell led the team with three blocked shots.

Towson returns to action on Wednesday evening at rival Delaware.  Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be heard live on CBS Sports Radio 1300 with Spiro Morekas on the call.
