Tigers Visit CAA Newcomer, Elon on Sunday

OPENING TIP: The Towson women's basketball team wraps up a weekend road trip on Sunday, Jan. 18 when it visits Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) newcomer, Elon. Opening tip in Alumni Gym is set for 2 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY: The Tigers will face a first time opponent Sunday. Elon joined the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in time for the start of the 2014-15 season. It will be the second time this season, the Tigers face an opponent for the first time ever (North Dakota).

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: Redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen led the Tigers with 17 points and 10 rebounds in Friday's win at College of Charleston. Hines-Alllen has now recorded a double-double in four of the first five CAA games. Overall, Hines-Allen has nine double-doubles this year. She leads the team and the CAA in that category.
As of Saturday afternoon, the Tigers had the CAA leader in double-doubles on both the women's and the men's side of the ball (Hines-Allen - nine and John Davis - eight). Hines-Allen ranks among the top 20 in the nation for double-doubles this season.

FABULOUS FORTY: Towson had a solid night shooting the ball at College of Charleston after a strong second half. The Tigers shot 52.17% from the field in the second half and finished the game shooting 42.6%. It was the third time this season, Towson shot 40% or better in a game. The Tigers are 3-1 this season when they reach that mark and 7-2 under Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler when they shoot 40% or better from the field.

LENDING A HELPING HAND: Led by the play of junior guard Dominique Johnson and freshman guard Breonn Hughey, the Tigers dished out 15 assists in Friday's win. Johnson had four assists while Hughey dished out five assists. It was the fifth time this season, the Tigers recorded 15 or more assists in a game. Towson is 4-1 this season when it dishes out 15 or more assists in a single-game.

BLOCK PARTY: The Tigers have been hugely successful blocking shots in the first five CAA games of the year. In those five games, the Tigers have outblocked their opponents 25-4. In CAA-only games, the Tigers lead the league while averaging 5.0 blocks per game. Eight Tigers have blocked at least one shot in CAA-only games. That group is led by redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen who has 12 blocks in five CAA games. Overall this season, the Tigers rank third in the CAA while averaging 4.3 blocks per game. Ten Tigers have blocked at least one shot on the season.

GOING DEEP: The Tigers hit seven three-pointers in Friday night's win over College of Charleston. Four Tigers connected on two triples in the game including senior forward Camille Alberson, junior guard Dominique Johnson and freshman guard Breonn Hughey. The Tigers have now made at least five three-pointers in each of their last four games. Towson has 84 three-pointers on the season, over half of the Tigers' triples have come in the last eight games (48). Johnson has 15 during the last eight games, senior guard Ciara Webb has 14 triples while Hughey has contributed eight.

REACHING THE 1,000 POINT CLUB: Redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen had 17 points against College of Charleston which gave her 323 for the season. Hines-Allen now has 745 points in 47 games as Tiger. Combined with the 239 points she scored at Virginia Tech, Hines-Allen has 984 career points. She needs 16 more points to reach 1,000 for her career.
