HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Towson put five players in double figures and scored 50 second-half points to erase a one-point deficit and pick up a key, 86-72, road victory at Hofstra Saturday evening.
The Tigers (11-12, 4-6 CAA) had their second-highest scoring half of the season as they went 14-of-22 (.636) from the field and 20-of-30 (.667) from the foul line in the game's final 20 minutes.
Four McGlynn led five players in double figures with 22 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc and 9-of-10 at the foul line.
Mike Morsell and
John Davis each added 14 points, while
Byron Hawkins and
Timajh Parker-Rivera chipped in 12 each.
Trailing by one at the half, Towson got a layup from Morsell and a three-pointer from McGlynn to give the Tigers a four-point lead just 48 seconds into the second half.
Hofsta (14-9, 5-5 CAA) would get within one on a pair of Juan'ya Green free thows, but Davis scored down low and McGlynn knocked down a three to push the advantage back to six.
Those two baskets were the start of a 27-15 run to open a 13-point lead with 6:50 to play. Parker-Rivera helped fuel the run 10 points during the spurt.
The Pride would make one more run to pull within six points, but Towson made 10-of-12 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
The Tigers had their best shooting night of the season as they went 26-of-45 (.578) from the floor. Towson also went 5-of-11 from beyond the arc and 29-of-41 from the free throw line.
Towson continued its strong work on the glass as they outrebounded the Pride 41-23.
Parker-Rivera nearly had a double-double as he pulled down nine rebounds and dished out two assists. McGlynn added five rebounds and four assists, while
Eddie Keith II handed out four assists.
Towson returns to action Feb. 4 as they travel to face Northeastern. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m.
