BOSTON, Mass. – Northeastern used a hot-shooting first half to open a double-digit halftime lead, and fought off a very pesky Towson team in the second, as the Huskies handed the Tigers a 69-62 defeat Wednesday evening at Matthews Arena.
The Huskies (16-8, 8-3 CAA) came out and made their first six shots of the game, including three three-pointers, in opening a 21-12 advantage. The lead would grow to 13 points and remain there the majority of the half before
Four McGlynn hit a pair of free throws to pull Towson within 34-24 with 1:20 left in the first half.
The Tigers (11-13, 4-7 CAA) got a jumper from
Walter Foster and a pair of free throws from
Byron Hawkins to start the second half and pulled within 40-30. But, the Tigers spurt was answered with a quick 7-0 Huskies run to push the lead back to 17 points.
Towson did not go away without a fight. With the Tigers trailing 62-49 with 4:14 left to play,
John Davis made a layup that sparked that sparked a 10-1 run and pulled Towson within four at 63-59. NU responded by making four-straight free throws to push the advantage back to eight.
Mike Morsell closed out the scoring for Towson with a three-pointer from the corner.

Byron Hawkins scored a team-high 13 points, while freshman
Mike Morsell and sophomore
John Davis each had 12 points.
The Tigers shot 15-of-29 (51.7%) from the floor in the second half and outscored NU 36-30 over the final 20 minutes.
Towson returns to action Saturday afternoon as they welcome James Madison to SECU Arena. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet. The game will also serve as the Autism Awareness game.
