TOWSON, Md. – In a hard fought defensive battle, it was Drexel that came out on top as the Dragons handed Towson a 55-41 defeat Thursday evening at SECU Arena.
After the two teams battled to a 22-22 tie at halftime, Drexel (3-11, 1-2 CAA) used a 6-1 run that was sparked by two quick baskets from Freddie Wilson to start the second half.
The Tigers (8-8, 1-2 CAA) would fall down by nine points with 9:49 remaining before
Alex Gavrilovic had his second tip-in of the half and
John Davis scored down low to make it a 38-33 game with 8:27 left to play.
The lead would stay around six points for the next six minutes before CAA leading scorer Damion Lee nailed a three at the end of the shot clock and then threw down a dunk in transition to thwart any potential comeback.
The teams played a very even first half. They both held four point leads in the game's opening 20 minutes.
Walter Foster closed out the half with a basket down low with a feed from
Byron Hawkins to tie the game for the fourth time.
Foster led the Towson offense for the second-straight game with 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Davis added 10 points off the bench.
The Tigers return to SECU Arena Saturday afternoon as they play host to Northeastern. Tip time is set for 2:06 p.m. and can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet. All fans wearing purple and black will received tickets for $4.
