Klugh Sets Kickoff Return Record Against JMU

TOWSON, Md. – Towson freshman Lyrics Klugh set a single-game return yardage record when he returned six kickoffs for 211 yards in a 51-30 loss to #5 James Madison Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.

Klugh had big kickoff returns of 65 and 77 yards in the second half.  The 211 kickoff return yards breaks the old record of 182 yards set by Julian Blair against Bucknell in 1990.

How it Happened
  • Towson fumbled the opening kickoff and the Dukes capitalized with an 18-yard scoring drive.
  • The Tigers came right back and got a one-yard touchdown run from Darius Victor to cap a nine-play drive.
  • Connor Frazier converted a 3rd-and-8 with a 22-yard run.  Three plays later he hit Andre Dessenberg on a 10-yard pass down to the one yard line.
  • The Towson offense put together a 15-play scoring drive that took 8:37 off the second-quarter clock.
  • The drive was done mainly on the ground as 13 of the 15 plays were running plays.  The final play of the drive was a nine-yard touchdown pass from Frazier to Christian Summers.
  • The quick-strike offense of JMU needed just three plays to reach the endzone and push their advantage back to 10 points with 28 seconds left in the half.
  • Towson was able to score the final points of the half as Frazier hit Summers for 35 yards.  He followed it up with a 17-yard pass to Sam Gallahan.
  • Sam Hurwitz ended the half by connecting on a career-long 41-yard field goal.
  • Linebacker Jordan Mynatt blocked a punt in the third quarter that set Towson up in the JMU 28.
  • Three plays later, Frazier hit Emmanuel Holder for a nine-yard touchdown to bring Towson to within four points.
  • The momentum would not last as the Dukes took the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown.
  • Klugh set up the Tigers final touchdown with his 77-yard kickoff return.
  • Frazier converted a third-down with an 11-yard run, then connected with Summers for the second touchdown of the game, this time from 11 yards out.

Inside the Numbers
  • Christian Summers caught the first two touchdowns of his career.  He finished the game with three catches for 55 yards.
  • Connor Frazier went 17-for-30 for 176 yards and a career-high three touchdowns.

  • Linebacker Eric Handy recorded a career-high 14 tackles, including nine solo stops.

The Tigers return to action Oct. 17 as they travel to face Stony Brook.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
