PHILADELPHIA – It was another cold, windy and rainy night on the pitch for the Towson women's soccer team, which dropped a 3-1 decision on the road at Drexel's Vidas Field Friday night. The Tigers struck first, but could not hang on against the Dragons during the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tilt.
How It Happened- Towson (6-4-2, 0-2-0 CAA) jumped out to a quick start as Emily Marshall sent in a free kick following one of Drexel's seven fouls. The free ball hit a Dragon defender and deflected in for an own goal, putting Towson up 1-0 in the ninth minute.
- Drexel (7-5-0, 1-2-0 CAA) leveled the match seven minutes later as Wilhelmina Hauch-Fausbøll notched her first goal of the night in the 16th minute. Civanni Moss sent in the assist to the back post.
- The first half ended in a 1-1 deadlock, despite Drexel out-shooting Towson 4-1.
- With the wind going against the Tigers in the second half, Drexel applied the pressure, out-shooting Towson 13-4 in the final 45 minutes.
- Starting keeper Taylor Sebolao made eight saves on the night, while the team was credited with one save in the 56th minute. Sebolao made a spectacular save on one side of the goal mouth, with the rebound going to the opposite side. A teammate wisely headed the ball away from the goal on the second Drexel chance.
- The Dragons broke through Towson's defense, which ranks as statistically as one of the best in the country, in the 66th minute on Hauch-Fausbøll's second goal of the evening. Vanessa Kara notched her eighth of the season for Drexel, tacking on the insurance goal in the 86th minute as a charging Sebolao came out of the goal in a do-or-die scenario.
- The Dragons out-shot Towson 17-4 on the night, including 13 in the second stanza. Corner kicks were closer, with the Tigers taking four against seven for the Dragons.
Behind the Numbers- Friday's game was Towson's first loss this season by more than one goal and was the first time this year the Tigers allowed more than two goals.
- The first goal of the contest was the second time a Tiger foe scored an own goal this season. Both plays stemmed for Marshall's foot, including a corner kick in the Battle of Baltimore against Mount St. Mary's.
- It was the third time this season the Tigers made nine saves, second most behind a 10-save day by Sebolao in the season opener against Bucknell.
- The Tigers have scored at least once in nine of the 12 games so far this season.
