TOWSON, Md. – Despite three team defensive saves, Towson fell 2-0 to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival William & Mary on Sunday. The Tribe converted two penalty stroke opportunities to earn the victory over the Tigers.
HOW IT HAPPENED- Towson (2-10, 0-2 CAA) held the Tribe scoreless for the first 24 minutes of the game. Senior Stacey Mackintosh was impressive defensively, recording a defensive save in the fourth minute to keep the Tribe off the scoreboard.
- William & Mary (5-7, 1-1 CAA) got on the board in the 24th minute after Cammie Lloyd successfully converted a penalty stroke opportunity.
- The Tribe outshot the Tigers 10-1 in the first half and held an 8-3 advantage in penalty corner opportunities. Tiger goalkeeper Emilee Woodall made five first-half saves.
- William & Mary was awarded another penalty stroke in the 51st minute. Amanda McAteer scored on the ensuing opportunity to give the Tribe a 2-0 lead.
- Towson kept the Tribe to a two-goal advantage as sophomore Sabrina Davis recorded a defensive save in the 49th minute. Mackintosh recorded a second defensive save in the 51st minute, before the Tribe scored on the penalty stroke.
- William & Mary added seven shots in the second half to finish the game with a 17-2 advantage. The Tribe had 12 penalty corner opportunities to the Tigers' three but both teams were unable to convert any chances into goals.
- Woodall added one save in the second-half to finish the game with a total of six. The Tribes' Meredith Savage was not forced to make a save to earn the win.
The Tigers head away from home for four-straight games. Towson will head to conference foe Hofstra on Friday, Oct. 11 for a 1 p.m. matchup. The Tigers will stay on the road to battle La Salle on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 12 p.m.
