GREENVILLE, N.C. – Freshman pitcher
Megan Dejter threw the first complete game of her collegiate career to help lead the Towson University softball team to a 3-1 win over Marshall at East Carolina University's Pirate Clash on Friday afternoon.
In Towson's opening game of the day, the Tigers fell to East Tennessee State University in five innings by a score of 9-1.
The Tigers (4-1) used a three-run fifth inning to earn the victory over Marshall after going down 1-0 in the first inning.
Holiday Cahill got the Tiger offense started by homering to center field which tied up the game. With two outs,
Hailey Balk and
Kendyl Scott both singled to put runners on first and second.
Jessica South knocked a single to right center that brought Balk home.
Brook Miko then drove in the Tigers' final run of the game with a double down the right field line which scored Scott.
Dejter held strong for the Towson, giving up just one run on ten hits. She struck out four and did not give up a walk during her seven innings pitched. She was aided by
Ambar Hickman who had 12 putouts at first during the game.
In the first game of the day, Towson had its offense silenced by East Tennessee State's
Taylor Carter who threw all five innings and gave up just four hits and one run.
The Bucs relied on three multiple run innings, including a five run fourth inning to claim the win over Towson.
Hickman surrendered six runs and nine hits over the first three innings before
Olivia Baltazar came on in relief action during the fourth inning. Baltazar gave up three runs and two hits in one inning pitched.
The Tigers got on the board in the fifth inning after Scott doubled down the left field line and
Caroline Reid singled to advance Scott to third. Miko reached on a fielder's choice that scored Scott.
Towson will wrap up the Pirate Clash tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. when they face Bucknell. Â
