GREENSVILLE, N.C. – The Towson University softball team scored an impressive six runs in the eighth inning to post a 7-2 win over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at the Pirate Clash.

The game remained scoreless through the first five innings of action. The Tigers had four hits but were unable to bring any of the runners home. Senior pitcher
Missy McCormick was impressive as she kept the Bison from recording a hit until the fifth inning.

Freshman shortstop
Brook Miko got things going for Tigers in the sixth inning as she singled to left field before advancing to second on a stolen base. Sophomore catcher
Holiday Cahill doubled to right center which scored Miko for the first run of the game.

The Bison tied up the game in the bottom of the sixth, a single from
Jacee Almond put a runner on base.
Carolyn Wan came in to pinch run for Almond and successfully stole second before she advanced to third on a ground out. A fielding error by the Tigers allowed Wan to score before the Towson could end the inning.

Towson came out strong in extra innings, scoring six runs in the eighth inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Highlighting the eighth inning for the Tigers was an RBI single from senior second baseman
Hailey Balk which put the Tigers ahead 2-1. Junior first baseman
Ambar Hickman and sophomore outfielder
Jessica South contributed RBI walks before freshman third base man
Daria Edwards plated three with a double to left center.

Bucknell scored one in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI groundout which made the final score, 7-2.

McCormick went the distance in the circle to record the win. She surrendered two unearned runs on one hit and struck out four while walking just one.
Cindy Cherness took the loss in relief for the Bison. She gave up three runs in two thirds of an inning.

Cahill led the Tigers at the plate as she had three hits with an RBI and a run scored. Balk was the other Tiger with multiple hits in the game as she had two and an RBI.

Winners of two straight, the Tigers will be back in action next weekend when they head to the UNC Greensboro Tournament. Towson gets that tournament underway with a contest against Georgetown on Friday, Feb. 20 at 12:30 p.m.
