WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 14 Towson men's lacrosse team scored the first seven goals of the game and hung on to defeat Georgetown, 9-6, on Sunday afternoon at Multi-Sport Field in Washington, D.C.
Senior
Andrew Hodgson matched his career high with three goals to lead the Tigers (2-1). Junior
Spencer Parks tallied a pair of goals, while sophomore
Joe Seider added a goal and an assist in the win.
"Our guys definitely showed up ready to play," said Towson Head Coach
Shawn Nadelen. "Georgetown's a good team and we knew they'd fight back after we got up big. We knew they wouldn't just roll over. When we're in that situation (with a big lead early), we have to remain poised and not be content. But overall, I was really pleased with the offensive production and the way Tyler (White) and the defense played as a whole."
Hodgson sparked the 7-0 Towson run out of the gate, scoring just over two minutes into the game. Junior
Ben McCarty and senior
Max Siskind each scored their first goals of the season during the first quarter spurt. Seider tallied his seventh goal of the year to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Hodgson posted his third goal of the game at the 12:37 mark of the second quarter to cap the Towson run and give the road team a 7-0 lead.
Craig Berge finally got Georgetown (0-2) on the board with 9:25 remaining in the opening half, but senior
Justin Mabus scored his first goal of the season to give the Tigers an 8-1 halftime lead.
After being outshot 24-16 in the first half, Georgetown controlled possession in the second half, outshooting Towson, 24-6.
Bo Stafford scored 13 seconds into the third quarter, but Parks' second goal of the game gave the Tigers a 9-2 lead with 10:09 left in the third quarter. That would be the final score of the game for Towson though.
The Hoyas scored twice more in the third quarter to enter the final period down just 9-4. A
Devon Lewis goal at the 5:44 mark of the fourth quarter pulled Georgetown to within 9-6, but that's as close as the Hoyas would get.
Junior goalkeeper
Tyler White posted a game-high 10 saves, including four in the fourth quarter.
Five different players scored for Georgetown, which was playing its first home game of the 2015 season. Sunday's game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was pushed back one day because of inclement weather in the region.
The Tigers return to action on Friday at Mount St. Mary's. Opening face-off is set for 4 p.m.
