FAIRFAX, Va. – The Towson University women's tennis team defeated George Mason by a score of 6-1 on Friday evening. The Tigers won the doubles point and five of the six singles matches for the victory.

"Mason was scrappy but our team found a way to win tonight," Head Coach
Doug Neagle said. "Renate had a very good match and so did Barbora. Nicole took advantage of her opportunity in the No. 2 singles spot."

The Tigers had five players earn singles victories in straight sets, led by
Sophie Lesage in the No. 1 singles spot. Lesage defeated George Mason's
Morgan Yang 6-3, 6-0.
Nicole Shakhnazarova won in No. 2 singles by a score of 6-1, 7-5 against the Patriots'
Esu Erdenebat.

Barbora Vasilkova and
Renate van Oorschodt also came away with a straight sets win. Vasilkova won against the Patriot's
Olivia Lacy-Thompson 6-0, 6-3. van Oorschodt defeated George Mason's
Mina Saygi 6-1, 6-0.

Lucy Williams had a close singles victory, defeating the Patriots'
Jane Awad by a final score of 6-4, 7-6(3).

In doubles play, Williams and Shakhnazarova partnered to defeat Yang and
Marijke Boers 8-6. van Oorschodt and
A.J. Gomer combined for the doubles win against Awad and Lacy-Thompson.

Towson will travel to Howard for a mid-week match at Howard on Tuesday, March 3 at 2 p.m. The Tigers will return home on Saturday, March 7 to host Marist for their spring season home-opener at 12 noon.
