WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Towson pushed across six runs in the fourth inning, but it was Wake Forest who responding with an eight-run sixth inning to hand the Tigers a 15-8 defeat Sunday afternoon at the Wake Forest Baseball Park.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Towson (0-7) got the bats going as
Mark Grunberg plated two runs with a single to right center. Two batters later,
Brady Policelli doubled down the left-field line to score two more runs.
Chris Ruszin and
Peter Bowles added RBI hits in the inning.
The Demon Deacons (7-4) took advantage of a throwing error to push across four unearned runs in the home-half of the inning and pull within 6-5. Kevin Jordan provided the big hit with a three-run double down the left-field line.
WF took the lead for good with their eight-run seventh inning. Three-straight singles pushed across four runs before a Nate Mondou triple scored two more runs.
The Tigers got two runs back in the ninth as Policelli tripled to left center to score
Thayer Seely, then scored on a wild pitch.
Mason Anderson (0-1) took the loss after surrendering seven earned runs on six hits in one inning. Paul Kirkpatrick (1-0) picked up the victory in relief, retiring all six batters he faced.
Policelli led the offense by going 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs. Grunberg drove in a pair of runs, while Seely scored twice.
The Tigers return to the diamond March 6 as they open a three-game home series against Bryant. The series is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m.
