Tigers To Host Hofstra In Conference Matchup

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team will seek its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) win of the season against conference foe Hofstra on Friday, March 13 at 8 p.m. at the Bare Hills Racquet and Fitness Club.

The match was originally scheduled to be played at the Towson Center Tennis Courts but was moved to an inside facility due to predicted inclement weather.

Tiger freshman Nicole Shakhnazarova earned CAA Women's Player of the Week honors, as well as Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I South Women's Player of the Week honors. Shakhnazarova entered this week undefeated in singles play with a 12-0 record on the season and won both of her No. 2 singles matches last week for the honors.

Towson (7-6, 0-2 CAA play) fell to defending conference champions UNC Wilmington in a tough battle earlier in the week. The Tigers earned two singles victories from freshman A.J. Gomer and Barbora Vasilkova in the matchup.

Gomer's No. 4 singles win came in a third-set tiebreaker against the Seahawks' Alix Theodossiou. She won the close first set by a score of 7-6(7) before dropping the second set 6-4 to force the extra set. Gomer pulled out the win in the extra set, winning 6-2.

Vasilkova won at the No. 5 singles spot against UNCW's Hamilton Lovett, 6-2, 6-1.

The Tigers had a victory in one of the three doubles matches but it wasn't enough to earn the doubles point. Senior Cailey Easdale partnered with Vasilkova for an 8-3 win over the Seahawks' duo of Theodossiou and Christin Kaupper.

Hofstra enters the matchup with a 4-0 record. The Pride had their last two matches against Bryant and Temple canceled due to weather. Their most recent win came in mid-February against Siena College by a close 4-3 score.

Towson will travel to California State University at Northridge on March 17 for a 2 p.m. matchup before heading to Colorado State University on March 19 for an 11 a.m. match.
