Tigers Fall in Ninth to Yale

TOWSON, Md. – Center fielder Richie Blosser delivered a two-run home run to left and made a great catch in center field to keep Towson in the game, but it was a five-run ninth inning that proved to be the difference in a 9-5 loss to Yale Friday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.

Towson (1-11) jumped out to early lead after Peter Bowles delivered a sacrifice fly to right field and Blosser followed with a two-run blast to left field.

Yale (3-3) got a run back in the fourth, before Brady Policelli got the run back for the Tigers in the fifth.  Policelli was hit by a pitch, and then proceeded to steal second and third.  Brendan Butler plated the runner with a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Bulldogs added two runs in the sixth to pull within one run.  Yale looked to take the lead in eighth as they plated a run on three-straight hits.  With the bases loaded and still nobody out, reliever Austin Clark got a fielder's choice to get a runner at the plate, a strikeout and a lineout to center that Blosser turned and reached up to make a game-saving catch.

The teams entered the ninth inning still tied.  The Bulldogs strung together five-straight hits, including a pinch-hit two-run homer from Joe Lubanski as part of a five-run inning.

The Tigers did not go quietly in the home-half of the inning as Mark Grunberg drew a two-out walk.  Butler followed with a single up the middle and Spencer Sutton drove in Grunberg with a single up the middle.

Thayer Seely (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning.  Mason Kukowski (1-0) picked up the victory after giving up one run on three hits over two innings.

Bruce Zimmerman did not factor in the decision after allowing three runs and striking out three over six innings.

The Tigers return to action Sunday afternoon as they play a doubleheader against NJIT at noon.  The teams will close out their three-game series at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon.
