Game Recap: Baseball |

Tigers Fall on the Road at #7 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Towson got a strong starter from right hander Lee Lawler, but it was not to be as the Tigers fell, 8-0, to No. 7 Virginia Tuesday afternoon at Davenport Field.

Lawler (0-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits over 4.1 innings.  He kept the Cavaliers off the board through the first two innings before a throwing error with two outs in the third allowed an unearned run to score.

In the second, UVA (13-5) put runners on second and third before Lawler got out of the jam with a strikeout.  He gave up a leadoff walk in the fourth, but came back to retire the next three hitters to get out of the inning.

Towson (2-13) started the game with a Brady Policelli double to left field.  He would advance to third, but was stranded.

The Tigers finished with seven hits as Richie Blosser led the way going 3-for-4.  Brendan Butler reached safely in three of his four plate appearances as he went 1-for-2 with a single and two walks.

Alec Bettinger (2-0) picked up the victory after tossing five shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out five.

The Tigers return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon as they play host to UMBC.  First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
