CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sophomore
Colin Dyer went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and four other Tigers collected two hits in Towson's 19-8 loss to College of Chalreston in the CAA opener Friday evening.
Peter Bowles went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while
Brady Policelli and
Brendan Butler each had two hits and two RBIs.
A.J. Gallo drove in a pair of runs and collected a pair of singles. As a team, the Tigers collected a season-best 15 hits.
The Cougars (12-6, 1-0 CAA) got off to a quick start as they got a solo home run from Alex Pastorius in the first inning, and then got a grand slam from Bradley Jones in the fourth.
The Tigers (2-16, 0-1 CAA) got on the board in the fourth after
Chris Henze doubled down the right-field line and scored on a
Peter Bowles single through the right side.
Towson pushed across three runs in the sixth as
Mark Grunberg singled and stole second. Dyer drove in Grunberg with a single to center field. After walks to
Danny Caddigan and Policelli loaded the bases, Gallo drove in a run with an infield single and Butler walked to force in a run.
Policelli would walk with the bases loaded in the seventh to score another run. The Tigers offense drew nine walks in the game.
Towson closed out the scoring with three more runs in the ninth. Grunberg drew a walk and score on Bowles' double to right center.
Billy Plante drove in Bowles with a single through the right side and Galllo drove in the third run with single through the right side.
The two teams will close out the three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
