CHARLESTON, S.C. – Designated hitter
Chris Henze drove in three runs and Towson jumped out to an early lead, but it was not enough as College of Charleston rallied for a 6-4 victory over the Tigers in the first game of the doubleheader at Patriots Point.
Henze got the Tigers on the board in the first inning with a two-run single through the left side.
Colin Dyer started things for Towson with a single, and
Brendan Butler followed with a base hit. Both runners advanced on a failed pickoff attempt.
Towson (2-17, 0-2 CAA) extended its lead to 4-0 in the third inning after Butler reached on a throwing error with two outs.
Colin Gimblet drove in Butler with a double down the left-field line before scoring on Henze's single back through the box.
The Cougars (13-6, 2-0 CAA) began their comeback in the home-half of the third as Nick Pappas delivered a two-run double as part of a three run inning. CofC took the lead in the fifth as Blake Butler tied the game with an infield single and Morgan Phillips drove in what turned out to be the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly.
Kevin Ross (1-2) took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits over five innings. Brandon Glazer (4-0) picked up the victory in relief after allowing two unearned runs over 4.2 innings. Carter Love threw two shutout innings to earn his first save.
The teams close out the three-game series with the second game of the doubleheader at 6:30 p.m.
