Clark Delivers Strong Start in Extra Inning Defeat

TOWSON, Md. – Towson got a strong start from right hander Austin Clark, but UNCW rallied for a 6-5 victory in 10 innings Friday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.

Clark had his best outing as a Tiger as he allowed two runs and struck out five over 6.2 innings.  After he allowed two runs in the fourth inning, Clark came back and retired the side in order in the fifth.  He allowed a leadoff single in the sixth before coming back to strike out the next three hitters.

The Tigers (3-19, 0-4 CAA) got on the board in the first inning after Brady Policelli walked and came around to score on Chris Henze's groundout to third.

Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Colin Dyer walked and scored on Policelli's opposite-field blast to right field.  A.J. Gallo continued the rally with a single through the right side.  After stealing second, Brendan Butler delivered an RBI single through the left side.

Towson added a run in the sixth on a Richie Blosser RBI single through the left side.

UNCW (17-6, 4-0 CAA) began their comeback in the eighth inning as they plated a run before loading the bases with one out.  After a strikeout, Casey Golden tied the game with a two-run single through the left side.

The Seahawks scored the winning run in the 10th after the Tigers second fielding error of the inning allowed the unearned run to score.

Bruce Zimmermann (1-2) took the loss in relief.  He allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits and five strikeouts over 3.1 innings.  Jordan Ramsey (1-1) picked up the victory after tossing two shutout innings.

Gallo, Henze and Blosser each collected two hits.  Policelli drove in two runs and has now driven in eight runs over the past two games.

The two teams will play the middle game of the three-game series Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
