TOWSON, Md. – Towson scored seven runs with two outs as they defeated UNCW, 10-6, in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
After UNCW (18-7, 5-1 CAA) scored a run in the top of the first, Towson came back to take the lead for good in the bottom of the third. With two outs,
Peter Bowles singled up the middle.
Colin Gimblet and
Richie Blosser were then hit by pitches to load the bases.
Colin Dyer followed with a fly ball to center field that was dropped, allowing three runs to score. Dyer then scored on
Brady Policelli's single through the right side.
Towson (4-20, 1-5 CAA) again rallied with two outs in the fourth as walks to Bowles and
Richie Blosser surrounded a Gimblet single. Dyer came through again with a bases-clearing double over the head of the left fielder.
The lead would grow in the sixth after
Chris Henze walked and Bowles doubled to left center to start the inning. Gimblet followed with a two-run double just inside the bag at third. Two batters later, Dyer drove in his fourth run of the day with a grounder to short.
The Seahawks would get three runs back in the eighth on a three-run home run from Luke Dunlap.
Right hander
Lee Lawler (2-3) was magnificent on the mound. After giving up a run just two hitters into the game, he retired the next eight hitters. He finished the day by allowing five runs, four earned with eight strikeouts over seven innings.
Evan Phillips (1-1) took the loss after giving up four unearned runs on three hits, two walks and four hit batters.
Bowles and Gimblet each collected two hits and scored three runs.
The Tigers return to action Tuesday afternoon as they welcome UMES to Schuerholz Park. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
