TOWSON, Md. – Towson shortstop
Peter Bowles went 4-for-4 with a triple, home run and four RBIs in leading the Tigers to a 6-2 victory over UMES Tuesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
Bowles got the Tigers going in the first inning as he gave Towson the lead for good with a two-run triple to right center.
Towson (5-20) added to its lead in the third inning with another two-out rally.
Brendan Butler started the rally with a single through the left side before stealing second.
Chris Henze followed with a run-scoring single through the left side.
Billy Plante extended the lead in the fifth with a two-out RBI-double to right field. The hit scored Bowles, who beat out an infield single and stole second.
UMES (9-17) scored a run in the sixth as a pair of walks and a stolen bases put runners on the corners. A wild pitch plated the run.
Bolwes put the game away in the seventh inning with a big two-run blast to deep left field for his second home run of the season.
David Sapp (1-1) battled through a tough first inning to throw five strong innings to earn his first victory over the season. Sapp allowed just one unearned run on four hits and three strikeouts over five innings.
Matt Allen earned his first save of the season after entering the game in the eighth inning with two runners on and no outs. He retired the next three hitters to get out of the inning, and then pitched a scoreless ninth.
Butler helped the offensive attach by collecting two hits and scored a pair of runs.
The Tigers return to the diamond Wednesday afternoon as they welcome Cornell to Schuerholz Park. Firs pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
