FAIRFAX, Va. – Despite three hits by junior
Olivia Yarbrough, the Towson University softball team split a doubleheader at George Mason on Tuesday afternoon, winning the first game 1-0 before falling in the second game 3-0. Towson is now 11-15 overall and 0-6 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.

The Tigers relied on a solid hitting in the first inning of game one to defeat the Patriots. Freshman
Kendyl Scott doubled to centerfield to start the Tiger offense. A walk and a single by sophomore
Holiday Cahill loaded the bases for Towson. The Patriots'
Christina Gabriele gave up her second walk of the game to senior
Missy McCormick that brought Scott home.

Towson outhit the Patriots 6-4 with all six of Towson's hits coming from different players.

McCormick (6-5) had a solid day on the mound for the Tigers, giving up only one hit over the first four innings of the game. She didn't give up a walk in the game and tied her season-high for strikeouts in a game with 10.

Gabriele gave up four hits and walked three Tigers over 4.2 innings pitched.
Sarah Kleinfelter came on in relief action for George Mason, pitching the final 2.1 innings and allowing two hits and a walk.

George Mason used a three-run first inning to defeat the Tigers in game two of the doubleheader. The Patriots started the inning with two straight singles and a triple that brought in two runs. George Mason scored their final run of the game on a sacrifice fly.

Towson attempted a comeback in the sixth inning, recording two hits and stranding two runners on base. Yarbrough led the Tiger effort with two hits while three other Tigers recorded hits in the game.

Freshman
Megan Dejter (3-7) gave up three runs and seven hits over 6.0 innings pitched. She struck out four batters and did not surrender a walk in the loss.

Kleinfelter pitched the first 2.1 innings for the Patriots, walking one batter and not giving up a hit.
Casey Herring allowed five hits and struck out just one batter over the final 4.2 innings.

Cahill lead the Tigers' defensive efforts, totaling 19 putouts between the two games.

Towson returns home to host Norfolk State in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 1. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 2 p.m. and will be the first game that the Tigers' play on their home field since construction upgrades began on the Tiger Softball Stadium in the fall.
