WASHINGTON, D.C. – A balanced scoring attack led the Towson University women's lacrosse team to a 13-10 win at Georgetown on Saturday afternoon. Six Tigers (2-0) scored at least one goal in the game while redshirt senior attacker
Andi Raymond paced the offense with four goals.
"I think for game two of our season, I'm pleased with the effort our girls put in," said Towson Head Coach
Sonia LaMonica. "We had some strong games from
Michelle Dufault,
Emily Roth and
Kelly McQuilkin on defense. "They had big matchups and did a great job today. Andi broke through today and had a big day. We talk a lot about sharing the load and I thought we did a lot of that today. It was nice to see some of our other kids stepping up."
Senior attacker
Sarah Maloof gave the Tigers an early lead with her first goal of the season less than a minute into the game. The Hoyas (1-3) responded with back-to-back goals and took a 2-1 lead with 22:53 to go in the half. Freshman attacker
Erika Cavallo scored her first career goal at 20:40. Maloof followed with her second of the game which gave Towson a 3-2 advantage with 19:29 remaining in the half.
Sammy Giordano helped Georgetown tie the game at 3-3 with 13:10 to go in the first stanza.
Towson used a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 lead with 9:50 to play in the half. Senior midfielder
Paige Duncan scored for the Tigers before sophomore attacker
Gabby Cha tallied a pair of goals. Georgetown scored with 2:41 left in the half and Towson took a 6-4 lead at the break.
Georgetown outshot the Tigers 10-8 in the first half. The Tigers won eight of the half's 11 draw controls. Senior
Kelsea Donnelly made five first half saves for the Tigers.
Towson scored five of the first six goals in the second half, including four straight. Raymond scored three of the Tigers' five goals while Cavallo and redshirt sophomore midfielder
Michelle Gildea scored free position goals. Towson led 11-5 with 13:30 to play in the game. Georgetown scored three straight goals to pull to within three, 11-8 with 3:28 to go in the game. The Tigers and Hoyas traded goals over the final three minutes of the game and Towson claimed the 13-10 victory. Raymond and Duncan each scored in the final three minutes of action.
Donnelly made five saves in the second half and finished with 10 while earning the win in goal.
Maddy Fisher made one save in the first half and took the loss.
Megan McDonald made two saves for the Hoyas in the second half.
Georgetown outshot the Tigers 16-12 in the second half and finished the game with 26-20 advantage. The Tigers won eight of the 14 draw controls in the second half and finished the game with a 16-9 edge.
Raymond finished the game with four goals and two assists for six points. Cavallo, Duncan, Maloof and Cha all posted two goals for the Tigers.
Kristen Bandos led Georgetown with three goals.
Towson is back in action on Wednesday, March 11 when it plays its home opener. The Tigers host No. 1 Maryland in Johnny Unitas ® Stadium at 7 p.m.
