Strong Start Leads Tigers to 15-6 Win over Drexel

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team opened up a 7-1 halftime lead en route to a 15-6 win over Drexel University on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play in Johnny Unitas ® Stadium. The Tigers (7-5, 2-1 CAA) won their third straight game as redshirt senior attacker Andi Raymond led the way with four goals and an assist.

"I thought Kelsea Donnelly did a nice job, she had a bunch of saves early that kept the momentum on our side," said Towson Head Coach Sonia LaMonica. "Our defense did a nice job and slide when they needed to and didn't need to slide at times cause they were there. Andi is finding her stride and did some things well tonight, dodging well and did a good job on the draws. She's firing on all cylinders and that's where we need her to be."

The Tigers opened the game with four straight goals and led 4-0 with 16:52 to play in the half. Freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano opened the scoring with a goal off a pass from sophomore midfielder Samantha Brookhart. Redshirt sophomore midfielder Michelle Gildea added a free position goal before Raymond scored twice. Raymond's first goal came as she caused a turnover on a clear and went straight to the goal. Her second came as she cut through traffic to the net.

Towson had its run briefly halted as Nadia Pelham-Lacey scored for Drexel at 15:41.

The Tigers went on to score three more times before half and took a 7-1 lead at the half. Raymond scored her third goal of the game with 7:13 to play in the stanza. It was Raymond's third straight game with a hat trick. She then assisted on freshman attacker Jenna Kerr's goal. Gildea tallied her second goal of the half with 2:42 to play.

Towson held a 13-11 edge in shots in the first half while the Tigers won five of the nine draw controls. Donnelly made seven first half saves, including two on free position shots by the Dragons (3-10, 0-3 CAA).

Freshman midfielder Emily Gillingham and Raymond scored in the first five minutes of the second half and pushed the Towson lead to 9-1.

Lacey Aghazarian scored for Drexel with 24:08 to play, that halted a 5-0 run by the Tigers which bridged the first and second half.

Towson responded with four straight goals and took a 13-2 lead with 17:52 left in the game. Gillingham and Montalbano each scored their second goal of the game while senior attacker Taylor Moore tallied the other two goals.

Drexel scored four of the final six goals in the game as the two teams battled through the final 13 minutes of action. Caroline Thiele and Pelham-Lacey each scored twice during the scoring stretch for the visitors. Moore completed her hat trick for the Tigers. Towson's final goal of the game came from sophomore attacker Michaela Duranti at 1:18 and made the final score 15-6.

Towson outshot the Dragons 13-10 in the second half and finished the game with a 26-21 edge. The Tigers won 11 of 14 draw controls in the second half and finished the game with a 16-7 advantage.

Donnelly played 42:21 of the game and finished with eight saves. Junior Alyssa Saxon played 11:27 and posted two saves while fellow junior Tayler Bowman had a save in 6:12. Teresha Bradley made six saves in the loss for Drexel.

In addition to her four goals and one assist, Raymond contributed four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Moore's hat trick was her first of the season and sixth of her career.
