WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University women's tennis team put up a hard fight, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Elon 4-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Quarterfinals.
 
The No. 3 Phoenix (15-7) won the team doubles point to start the matchup with a 1-0 advantage. Elon earned its first doubles victory at No. 2 as Olivia Lucas and Bridget Liddell defeated the Tiger pairing of senior Ayana Dow and freshman Lucy Williams, 8-4.
 
The Phoenix had a 5-4 lead at No. 3 doubles early in the matchup but the Tiger pairing of senior Cailey Easdale and freshman Barbora Vasilkova fought back to tie the match at 7-7. After a tough battle, Elon's Taylor Casey and Erica Braschi ultimately won the tiebreaker 8-7(7) to secure the team doubles point.
 
Elon swept singles play, winning three matches in straight sets to advance to the CAA Semifinals. Freshman Nicole Shakhnazarova lost just her third singles match of the year, falling 6-1, 6-2 to Kristen Ward at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Sophie Lesage fell to Lucas 6-2, 6-4 in the second spot while freshman A.J. Gomer dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Braschi.
 
The final three singles matches were not finished. Freshman Barbora Vasilkova had an impressive day at the No. 5 spot. She held the lead during the first set against Casey, winning 6-4. In the second set, she held a 3-1 advantage when the match was called
 
Towson finished the season with a 12-9 record.
