WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Towson University softball team fell to UNC Wilmington on Saturday afternoon, snapping its ten-game win streak with a doubleheader loss. The Seahawks won game one 4-3 and game two 3-0.

The Seahawks took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one after
Claudia Spinelli hit a three-run homer to left field, scoring
Lauren Moore and
Kristen Jernigan. UNCW added another run in the fifth as
Taylor Matkins stole home while
Casey Rowland was caught stealing second.

The Tigers attempted a two-out rally in the seventh inning, scoring three runs off three consecutive singles.
Olivia Baltazar started things off with a single to third base that brought home
Missy McCormick.
Macie McGeehan followed with a single to left center that scored
Shelby Stracher.
Caroline Reid tallied the Tigers' final run on a single to shortstop by
Olivia Yarbrough. The Tigers were within one run but
Kendyl Scott popped up to shortstop to end the game.

McCormick allowed four runs over 6.0 innings in the loss. She gave up five hits, walked four batters and struck out four while at the mound.

Sarah Davis gave up three runs and eight hits for the Seahawks to get the win. She walked just one batter and tallied four strikeouts during the game.

The second game of the doubleheader was a pitching battle with both teams scoreless until the fifth inning.

The Seahawks' offense broke open as Moore singled to centerfield and advanced to second on the throw, scoring
Darian Roberts. Davis drove in Moore and
Jessica Rappe with a single down the right field line. Those three runs would be the only scored during the game for either team.

Towson had its best chance of the night in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases with two outs on a fielders' choice by
Daria Edwards. The Seahawks ended the game by tagging
Jessica South out at home plate on a fielders' choice to Yarbrough.

Megan Dejter gave up three runs, two of which were earned, and four hits over 65.0 innings. She walked three batters and struck out two.

Peyton Jordan pitched a complete game shutout for the Seahawks. She allowed four hits and two walks over 7.0 innings and struck out three batters.

The Tigers and Seahawks will conclude the three-game series with a single game tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. The game was originally scheduled for a 12 p.m. start but was moved up due to expected inclement weather in the area.
