Tigers Use Long Ball in Series Finale Victory

TOWSON, Md. – Towson got home runs from Colin Dyer, Brendan Butler, Peter Bowles and Brady Policelli as the Tigers defeated Elon, 14-4, Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Schuerholz Park.

The Tigers (11-25-2, 5-10 CAA) got on the board in the third inning after Dyer walked and came around to score on a groundout from A.J. Gallo.  A wild pitch pushed across the second run of the inning.

Towson doubled its lead in the fourth as Tristan Howerton doubled to left center and scored when Dyer followed with his first career home run to left center.

That would be more than enough offense for starter Lee Lawler (3-4).  The junior allowed just one run on five hits and five strikeouts over seven innings.

Elon (18-19, 10-5 CAA) scored a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Austin Leeney.  The Tigers got the run right back in the sixth as Butler delivered a leadoff home run to left field.

The eighth inning was the big difference in the contest as the Tigers scored nine runs in the inning to seal the victory.  Richie Blosser and Howerton each had RBI base hits, but Peter Bowles and Brady Policelli delivered the big blasts with a two-run and three-run shots, respectively.

Dyer, Blosser, Henze and Howerton each collected two hits.  Dyer and Bowles each drove in three, while Dyer also scored three times.

Lucas Bakker (3-5) took the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits over six innings.

The Tigers return to action Tuesday afternoon as they welcome George Washington to Schuerholz Park.  First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
