TOWSON, Md. – George Washington score four runs in the top of the ninth inning to rally back to defeat Towson, 8-4, Tuesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
After the Colonials (24-12) tied the game with two runs in the eighth, the leadoff hitter in the ninth was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Eli Kashi drove in a run with a single into the left-field corner. Joey Bartosic then drove in two runs with a single up the middle before Matt Cosentino drove in the fourth run with a single up the middle.
GW jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as they scored an unearned run in the first and got a leadoff home run from Kashi to start the third.
Towson (11-26-2) got on the board in the home-half of the third as Butler and Howerton singled to put runners on the corners.
Colin Dyer drove in Butler from third with a fielder's choice. The Tigers then tied the game in the fourth after
Chris Henze singled to start the inning and
Spencer Sutton drove in the runner with a single through the left side.
The Tigers took the lead in the fifth inning as Howerton was hit by a pitch and Dyer singled into the hole at short. After a balk,
Richie Blosser plated one run with a groundout to short. Henze drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Right hander
Austin Clark kept the Tigers in the game over the first five innings. The junior allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and three strikeouts over five innings.
Luke Olson (2-0) picked up the victory in relief for GW, allowing two hits over two shutout innings.
Sutton and Butler each had two hits, while seven other Tigers each collected a hit.
Towson returns to action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to face Bucknell. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
