LEWISBURG, Pa. – Towson scored to take the lead in the top of the eighth inning, but Bucknell answered back with a run in the bottom of the eighth and another in the ninth to walk off with a 7-6 victory Wednesday afternoon at Depew Field.
The Bison (21-21) drew a one-out walk in the ninth before Anthony Gingerelli delivered the game-winning RBI double to left center. BU tied the game in the eighth on an Alex O'Neill RBI double to right.
Towson (11-27-2) jumped out to an early lead as
Richie Blosser started the game with a double and scored on
Mark Grunberg's single to right field.
The Tigers extended their lead by pushing across three runs in the third inning. After loading the bases with no outs,
Peter Bowles plated a run with a fielder's choice and
Chris Henze followed with a run-scoring base hit.
Brendan Butler pushed across the third run with a fielder's choice.
BU took the lead in the fourth inning as Gingerelli delivered a leadoff home run as part of a five-run inning.
Towson came back to tie the game in the seventh as Grunberg walked with two outs. After getting to third on an
A.J. Gallo double, a wild pitch allowed Grunber to score.
The Tigers added a run in the eighth as Tristant Howerton singled with two outs and scored on a
Colin Dyer single through the left side.
Freshman
David Marriggi came out of the bullpen and retired all four hitters he faced.
David Sapp and
Mason Anderson followed with shutout innings of their own.
Matt Allen (0-1) took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits over 1.1 innings.
Grunberg led the offense by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Gallo added a pair of hits and an RBI.
The Tigers return to action Friday evening as they open a three-game CAA series at James Madison. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
