ARLINGTON, Va. – George Washington took advantage of a pair of Towson errors to score six unearned runs in a 9-4 victory over the Tigers Tuesday afternoon at Tucker Field.
After the Colonials (26-14) scored an unearned run in the first, Towson came back to tie the game in the third after
Colin Gimblet led off the inning with a single and scored on a
Chris Henze double down the left field line.
GW regained the lead in the fourth by pushing across two runs, before pushing across three more runs in the sixth.
The Tigers (12-30-2) scored a run in the sixth after
Peter Bowles doubled to left center and scored on Henze's single up the middle.
Towson added single runs in the eighth and ninth. Bowles drove in a run in the eighth with his second double of the game, and
A.J. Gallo delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth.
Nick Cioffi (0-3) suffered the loss after giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits and four strikeouts over five innings. Shane Kemp (3-2) allowed one run on three hits over 2.2 innings of relief.
Bowles led the offense by going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Henze added two hits and drove in two runs.
The Tigers return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon as they welcome Delaware State to Schuerholz Park. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
