TOWSON, Md. – Towson took advantage of a season-high 12 walks and two hit by pitches in a 15-9 victory over Delaware State Wednesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
The Tigers (13-30-2) scored at least one run in seven of the eight innings in which they hit. The got on the board in the first inning after
Brady Policelli walked and stole second.
Peter Bowles drove him in from second with a single to center field.
After the Hornets (12-26) tied the game in the second, Towson took the lead for good in the home-half of the inning with a pair of unearned runs.
Towson added to its lead in the third on a solo home run from
Richie Blosser before
Chris Henze blasted a three-run home to left center as part of a four-run fourth inning.
The Tigers put the game out of reach with two runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh. Bowles,
Brendan Butler and
Spencer Sutton each drove in runs over the two innings.
DSU scored two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth for the final margin.
David Sapp (2-1) earned the victory out of the bullpen by retiring all six batters he faced. Zach Cooney (2-2) took the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits and four walks over 1.1 innings.
Bowles paced the offensive attack by going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored.
Mark Grunberg and Butler each added two hits.
The Tigers return to action this weekend as they close out the home schedule with a three-game series with Northeastern. The series gets underway at 3 p.m. Friday. Saturday's 2 p.m. game will by the Pink Game, while seven seniors will be honored prior to Sunday's 1 p.m. first pitch.
