TOWSON, Md. – Towson hit a pair of home runs and scored double digits for the second-straight game in defeating Northeastern, 13-7, in the first game of a three-game series Friday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
The Tigers (14-30-2, 7-12 CAA) jumped out to an early lead in the second inning as
Chris Henze drew a walk and came around to score on
Brady Policelli's sacrifice fly to center field.
Towson extended its lead in the third inning as
Colin Dyer delivered an RBI double before Henze hit a three-run blast to left center and Blosser made it back-to-back shots two pitches later.
The Huskies (20-23, 10-6 CAA) got single runs in the fourth and fifth innings on solo home runs from Rob Fonseca and Gabe Levanti.
After NU pushed across two more runs in the top of the seventh, Towson responded in the home-half of the inning by scoring six runs of their own. They scored the first two runs without hitting a ball out of the infield.
Mark Grunberg delivered the only hit to the outfield in the inning, a check-swing RBI single through the left side.
Bruce Zimmermann (4-3) held the Huskies offense in check for 6.1 innings. The lefty allowed four runs, two earned, on just five hits and three strikeouts.
Nick Berger (5-3) suffered the loss in his shortest outing of the season. He allowed seven runs on six hits over 3.1 innings.
The Tigers collected 12 hits on the game, with Grunberg and Blosser each going 3-for-5. Henze drove in three runs, while also scoring three times.
The two teams will play the middle game of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. The game will be the Tigers annual Pink Game.
