Raymond Scores 100th Career Goal in 12-2 Win over Elon

TOWSON, Md. – Redshirt senior attacker Andi Raymond scored three goals including the 100th of her career to lift the Towson University women's lacrosse team to a 12-2 win over Elon University in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action on Friday night. Raymond was one of seven Tigers to score and help Towson (5-5, 1-1 CAA) snap a two-game losing streak.

The Tigers got a strong defensive effort in the game as they held the Phoenix to just two goals in the game. It was the first time since 2001 that the Tigers held an opponent to two goals or less in a game.

"I saw a well-connected team with great chemistry and who had good flow from start to finish tonight," said Towson Head Coach Sonia LaMonica. "Any time Andi comes out and has success early it's going to be a great day. It's exciting to see her have the success she's had in the past and as a whole we found that Tiger team we were looking for."

Raymond, who entered the game needing one goal to become the 10th Tiger in program history to score 100 career goals and first since Nikki Marcinik in 2010, was awarded a free position shot at 28:27. Raymond buried it in the back of the net and gave Towson the 1-0 lead. She added to the Tiger lead with an unassisted goal at 25:57.

The Tigers kept the offense rolling at 21:04 with a goal from freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano. Senior attacker Sarah Maloof was awarded a free position shot but she passed on the shot and fired the ball across the circle to Montalbano who gave the Tigers' a 3-0 lead. Raymond completed her third hat trick of the season with a goal off a pass from Montalbano at 19:05.

Goals from sophomore attacker Gabby Cha and Maloof gave Towson a 6-0 lead with 14:45 to play in the first half.

Elon briefly halted the Tiger run as Niocle Sinacori converted a free position shot at 9:58 which made it a 6-1 game.

Towson added one more goal before the half as senior midfielder Paige Duncan scored off a pass from Montalbano.

Towson outshot the Phoenix (7-4, 0-1 CAA) 15-10 in the first half and won five of the nine draw controls. Senior Kelsea Donnelly made seven big first half saves.

The Tigers opened the second half by scoring the first five goals of the stanza. Cha, Duncan and Montalbano all scored their second goals of the game. Duncan's came in a man-up situation as she curled around the front. Montalbano's came off a pass from sophomore midfielder Samantha Brookhart after the Tigers forced a turnover on a clear.

Towson also got goals during that run from freshman midfielder Emily Gillingham and senior attacker Taylor Moore. Moore's goal capped the run and came with 5:38 to play in the game and gave the home team a 12-1 lead.

Sinacori scored her second of the game with 3:54 to play which made the final score 12-2.

Towson outshot the Phoenix 12-8 in the second half and finished the game with a 27-18 advantage. The Tigers won four of the seven draw controls in the second half and held a 9-7 edge in that category.

Donnelly made nine saves while playing the first 45:37 in goal and earned the win. Junior Alyssa Saxon made two saves in 14:23 of relief action. Rachel Ramirez made nine saves in the loss for Elon.

Raymond and Montalbano each tallied four points in the game for the Tigers. Raymond's came on three goals and an assist while Montalbano had two goals and two assists. Cha and Duncan each had two goals while Maloof had a goal and an assist.

Sinacori tallied both goals for the Phoenix.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, April 7 as they travel to UMBC for a 12 p.m. game. The contest was originally scheduled for February as the Tigers' season opener but had to be postponed due to the weather.
