TOWSON, Md. – William & Mary used the long ball to take the rubber game, 8-3, over Towson Sunday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
Tribe (14-14, 6-3 CAA) provided the damage as he collected three home runs on the day. He took advantage of a breeze blowing out to right for a two-run shot in the first and a solo shot in the third. His third home run of the day was a two-run shot to straight-away center field.
Towson (7-22, 2-7 CAA) got on the board in the fifth inning as
Richie Blosser beat out an infield single to third and advanced to second when
Colin Dyer walked. A passed ball advanced both runners and
Chris Henze drove in Blosser with a groundout to shortstop.
The Tigers pushed across another run in the sixth after
A.J. Gallo doubled into the right-field corner on scored on a
Peter Bowles sacrifice fly to right field.
The third run for the Tigers scored in the ninth as
Mark Grunberg and Blosser singled ahead of Dyer's RBI single through the left side.
Lee Lawler (2-4) took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs, four earned over five innings. Aaron Fernandez (2-2) allowed two runs, on earned, on three hits over six innings to pick up the victory. Mitchell Aker earned his first save after allowing one run on three hits over the final three innings.
Gallo and Blosser each collected two hits as the Tigers only had six as a team.
The Tigers return to the diamond Tuesday afternoon at they travel to face UMES. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
