TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore
Holiday Cahill had six hits in seven at bats and homered twice to lead the Towson softball team (17-16) to a doubleheader sweep of Delaware State (7-21) at the Tiger Softball Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers won the first game 10-2 (6 innings) and defeated the Hornets 9-1 (5 innings) in game two.

Game One: Towson 10, Delaware State 2 (6 Innings)Â
After giving up a run in the first inning of game one, the Tigers' offense quickly came alive. Freshman
Daria Edwards crushed the first of three Tiger home runs, driving in Cahill and freshman
Shelby Stracher in the second inning. It was the first career home run for Edwards.

Cahill managed to stay alive during the longest at bat of the game, fouling the ball off six times before smacking a two-run homer to left field on the 10th pitch. Freshman
Kendyl Scott who had tripled to right center scored on the play.

The Tigers added two insurance runs in the fifth inning and another three in the sixth to win the game. Freshman
Olivia Baltazar and senior
Missy McCormick used back-to-back singles to score Scott and Stracher who were walked to start the fifth inning.

Freshman
Brook Miko belted a two-run homer to left field that scored junior
Olivia Yarbrough. A single and a walk put runners on first and second for the Tigers with one out. Towson used an error by the Hornet's right fielder
Nkili Matthews to bring in freshman pinch runner
Dylan Jarvis and end the game.

Delaware State used two doubles in the first inning to score
Shelby Hawthorne. The Hornets added another run in the fifth inning as a
Nicole Gazzola singled before stealing second and advancing to third on an error by Baltazar. She was brought home by
Vanessa Washington who lined out to right field.

Cahill paced the Towson effort, going three-for-three on the game and recording a game-high eight putouts. Seven different Tigers recorded hits for the day as Edwards totaled two and a game-high three RBIs.

Baltazar gave up two runs and six hits on course to her second win of the season. She struck out two batters and walked just one over 6.0 innings pitched.

Tara Tursellino allowed 10 runs, 10 hits and five walks in the loss for the Hornets.

Game Two: Towson 9, Delaware State 1 (5 Innings)Â
Towson's offense got going early in game two but it was a five-run fifth inning that sealed the doubleheader sweep for the Tigers.

Delaware State once again scored a run in the opening inning but it was a short-lived lead as Edwards scored for the Tigers in the bottom of the first. Edwards singled and successfully stole second before Cahill came up to the plate. Cahill doubled to left center and brought in Edwards, recording her fourth hit of the day and third RBI.

Scott helped the Tigers take the lead in the second inning, tripling to right center before scoring when junior
Caitie Barber grounded out to second base.

Back-to-back homers by Miko and Cahill to start the third inning gave the Tigers a 4-1 cushion. It was the second home run of the day for both Miko and Cahill who crushed it out of the ballpark in game one.

The Tigers capped their victory in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on four hits and an error by
Chloe Oro.

Cahill had a game-high three hits and four RBIs while seven other Tigers recorded hits for the game. Towson outhit Delaware State 12-6.

Junior
Ambar Hickman had an impressive showing, giving up just one run on six hits and three walks in the win. She struck out two Hornets during the game.

Jessica Shalongo finished with nine runs allowed and 12 hits against. She walked five Tigers over 4.2 innings pitched.

Towson will welcome Georgetown for another mid-week doubleheader tomorrow, April 8 at 3:30 p.m.
