Policelli Homers in Season-Ending Loss

NEWARK, Del. – The 2015 season came to an end Saturday afternoon as Delaware scored eight runs with two outs in handing Towson a 10-4 defeat.

The Blue Hens got on the board in the second inning, but the Tigers (17-35-2, 9-15 CAA) came right back in the third to tie the game.  Colin Dyer and Brady Policelli walked, and Tristan Howerton advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt.  Mark Grunberg drove in Dyer with a single to left field.

With the Tigers again trailing by a run in the fifth, Policelli greeted the UD relief pitcher by delivering a two-out, three-run home run to left center to put Towson ahead 4-2.  The long ball was the team-leading eighth on the season for Poclicelli.

The bottom of the fifth inning started out good for the Tigers as they recorded two outs to start the inning.  UD (23-22, 11-13 CAA) would then erupt as the next five hitters collected hits, with the big blow being a three-run home run from Joe Giacchino.

The Blue Hen offense battled with two outs again in the sixth as back-to-back doubles were followed by a two-run home run from Calvin Scott.

Lee Lawler (4-6) was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs, six earned, over 3.2 innings.  Nick Spadafino (4-0) picked up the victory in relief, allowing one run on three hits over 2.1 innings.

Six different Tigers collected hits in the finale.  Grunberg's RBI single was the 60th hit of the season, becoming just the 3rd Tiger freshman to collect at least 60 hits in a season.
