ABERDEEN, Md. – Towson scored in the first and second innings, but it was not enough as Maryland defeated the Tigers, 9-2, Wednesday evening in the Ripken Cup at Ripken Stadium. 
Towson (15-33-2) got on the board early after 
Mark Grunberg led off the game with a double into the left-field corner.  Two batters later, 
A.J. Gallo drove in Grunberg with a sacrifice fly to center field. 
After the Terps tied the game in the bottom of the first, 
Brady Policelli started the second with a single to right field.  
Peter Bowles moved the runner to third with a single to left center, and 
Brendan Butler drove in Policelli with a single to center field. 
The Terps (33-16) rallied with two outs in the second inning to take the lead for good.  Brandon Lowe capepd the three-run rally with a two-run double to left center.  Kevin Martir helped to extend the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run just inside the left-field foul pole. 
Austin Clark (0-5) took the loss on the mound after allowing eight runs, seven earned, over 3.1 innings.  
Garrett Walther came on in relief and tossed 2.2 shutout innings. 
Brian Shaffer (4-0) earned the victory after allowing two runs on five hits and seven strikeouts over five innings. 
Grunberg and each collected two hits, including a double. 
The Tigers return to the diamond May 11 as they travel to face Mount St. Mary's. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
